1st Stop on the Great Ocean Road: Lorne

After leaving Torquay and getting a start on the Great Ocean Road, it wasn't long before we found a town to settle in for a few days. In fact, it was the first town the we drove in to. Lorne is a cute, little resort town full of cafes, bakeries (mmm) and small shops. It is right on the coastline with a great beach as well as a couple of waterfalls and lookouts. When we pulled into Lorne, we knew that we just had to spend a bit of time exploring and enjoying all it had to offer. The first day we rushed to the beach as it had been over a week since we had some hardcore suntanning time and we were all itching to get a little sun. Dan being the social butterfly that she is made acquaintances at one of the bakeries resulting in us getting an amazing tour guide, Matt. Not only did he show us all that Lorne has to over, he even let us park our campervan in his driveway, saving us money once again. Between our time lying on the beach and playing in the waves, Matt took us on a bush walk to a waterfall, which reminded us of a scene from Jurassic Park. We also experienced the best smoothies that we have found so far in Australia at the Lip 'n sip just on the main street. We ended up stopping there a few times during our stay, maybe even twice in one day, to find relief from the heat.
I think that it would be safe to say that Lorne was our favorite town along the Great Ocean Road. It has so much to offer between it's beach, shops, and great people that we found there. If you ever find yourself driving that way, take some time out and enjoy it.
